[Scribus] ISO 8859-2 Issues

Let us address some ISO 8859-2 issues which are crucial for those of
us who work with Polish, Tschech or Hungarian texts. I compiled Scribus
0.9.8 on three Linux systems: Mandrake 9.0, SuSE 7.3 (with KDE 2.2.2
and QT 3.0.4) and Knoppix 3.1 (Knoppix hard disk installation equals
more or less Debian Sid). (I've made screen shots of all 3 tests, they
are to big to be posted here, though)

1. Mandrake 9.0:

    * With LANG set to "pl_PL" it is impossible to input Polish
characters into a text field directly from keyboard. Instead of a
Polish sign, an ISO 8859-1 sign shows up (e.g. ? instead of
      Polish "l stroke")
    * Astonishingly, it is possible to insert Polish characters with
"Insert special", not only with the mouse , but also from keyboard
    * Poor kerning of ISO 8859-2 fonts, immence distance after Polish "l
      stroke"

2. SuSE 7.3:

    * With LANG=pl_PL.ISO-8859-2 there are no problems while typing
Polish characters in the text field
    * Kerning is good (at least during this very swift test)
    * Poor export to PDF: Polish characters are substituted with
      question marks.

3. Knoppix 3.1:

    * With LANG set to "pl_PL" it is impossible to input Polish
characters into a text field directly from keyboard. Instead of a
Polish sign, an ISO 8859-1 sign shows up (e.g. ? instead of
      Polish "l stroke")
    * It is possible to insert Polish characters with "Insert special",
not only with the mouse , but also from keyboard
    * Kerning seems to be OK
    * Poor export to PDF: some Polish characters (e.g. "eogonek") simply
      disappear

It would be interesting to know, how our "brothers in ISO 8859-2" manage
these problems - there are some Tschech and Hungarian names on the list.

Greetings / Gr??e / Pozdrowienia
Maciej Hanski
