[scribus-dev] 64 bit build of Scribus-1.3.5 on BlueWhite64 (Slackware)

I built podofo-0.7.0 with -DWANT_LIB64:BOOL=TRUE as per instructions

Following an initial build failure of scribus135 I set the
CFLAGS to -fPIC

$ env|grep CF
CFLAGS=-fPIC

and CMakeCache.txt (and other files) for both podofo and scribus135
include;
 CMakeCache.txt:CMAKE_C_FLAGS:STRING='-fPIC '

Then rebuilt podofo and scribus135, but still the same error wanting
recompile with -fPIC

Any clues as to how I can fix this would be most welcome.

As an aside, Scribus 64 bit built without podofo just flies. One
click on the menu item and it is up and running with a page in about 3
seconds. I can't click fast enough.

Leaves my Ubuntu-9.04 installation for dead.

TIA
